How do I know if ChatGPT recommends my business?

Ask ChatGPT the questions your customers ask, such as "best [category] in [city]", in a temporary chat. Run each prompt a few times and note whether your business appears. For a faster and more reliable view, use an AI visibility checker.

Is there a free way to check AI visibility?

Yes. The manual method in this guide is free. Several tools, including the Engage Positive AI Visibility Checker, also offer a free check that shows whether AI platforms mention your brand and which competitors appear instead.

How often should I check my brand in AI search?

Monthly is a sensible minimum for most brands. Check more often after a product launch, a rebrand, a major content push or a known AI model update, since each can shift how AI tools describe you.

Why does ChatGPT mention my competitor but not me?

Usually because your competitor is mentioned more often on the sources AI trusts, such as review sites, roundups and forums, or because their website answers buyer questions more directly. Checking citation sources shows you where the gap is.

Does ranking on Google mean I will show up in ChatGPT?

Not necessarily. Strong Google rankings help, especially for Google AI Overviews, but ChatGPT and other assistants weigh third-party mentions and content clarity differently. Many brands rank well on Google and still rarely appear in AI answers.

What is an AI visibility score?

An AI visibility score summarises how often and how favourably AI platforms mention your brand across a set of relevant prompts. It usually combines mention rate, position and sentiment into one figure you can track over time.
